A risk advisor for hospitality, gaming & entertainment

High guest volume, alcohol, live events, and around-the-clock operations stack exposure fast. We map how hotels, bars, venues, and entertainment operators actually take a loss, build the plan, then put the right policies behind it.

Risk in a 24/7 guest business

Hospitality, gaming, and entertainment operations stack exposure faster than almost any other business: high guest volume, alcohol service, late-night hours, cash handling, and large physical spaces all run at once. A single night can produce a liquor liability or dram shop claim from an over-served patron, an assault and battery claim tied to crowd control or security, a slip-and-fall on a wet floor, and a kitchen fire — each governed by different policy language. We start by mapping how a property actually takes a loss, then structure coverage and risk transfer around those specific exposures so the policy form matches the operation.

On the liability side, that means watching for assault and battery sublimits and exclusions that many hospitality forms carry, confirming liquor liability sits at the limits your lease and contracts call for, and reviewing the security and crowd-management practices carriers underwrite to. On the property and income side, we look at equipment breakdown for HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen lines, business interruption tied to seasonal and event-driven revenue, and guest property and valet/garagekeepers exposure. Behind the counter, point-of-sale systems and loyalty data create breach exposure, cash and high staff turnover create crime and employee-theft exposure, and a fast-moving workforce drives wage-and-hour and harassment claims under EPLI.

We also handle the contract and certificate side that venues, landlords, festival promoters, and gaming regulators require — additional-insured status, waivers of subrogation, and primary and non-contributory wording on certificates, plus special-event and host-liquor coverage for one-off shows and private bookings. The aim is a program structured to reduce gaps and clarify exclusions across general liability, liquor, property, crime, cyber, and umbrella, so coverage lines up with how the business actually runs.

What we handle for hospitality, gaming & entertainment operators

  • Liquor liability / dram shop limits checked against lease and contract requirements, including host-liquor for private events
  • Assault & battery and abuse coverage — reviewing sublimits, exclusions, and how the GL form responds to security incidents
  • Special-event and one-off entertainment coverage for concerts, festivals, and private bookings
  • Equipment breakdown for HVAC, refrigeration, walk-ins, and kitchen lines, plus kitchen-fire protection and spoilage
  • Business interruption tied to seasonal swings, event calendars, and extended-period-of-restoration needs
  • Cyber and breach coverage for point-of-sale systems, payment processing, and guest/loyalty data
  • Crime and employee-theft (fidelity) coverage for high cash-handling and high-turnover environments
  • Employment practices liability (EPLI) sized for wage-and-hour, harassment, and high staff turnover
  • Guest property (innkeeper's liability) and valet/garagekeepers coverage for parked vehicles and checked items
  • Certificate handling and risk transfer — additional-insured, waiver of subrogation, and primary & non-contributory wording for landlords, promoters, and gaming partners

Hospitality insurance FAQs

What is liquor liability insurance and do I need it?

Liquor liability covers claims arising from serving alcohol — for example, injury or damage caused by an intoxicated patron. Any business that serves or sells alcohol should carry it, and venues, bars, and restaurants are often required to by leases and contracts. We build it into your risk plan.

Do venues and event operators need higher limits?

Usually, yes. High guest volume and event exposure mean a single incident can produce a large claim, so venues frequently carry umbrella limits and specific event coverage to meet contract requirements and protect the business.

Does our general liability policy already cover assault and battery claims at the bar or venue?

Not necessarily in the way operators expect. Many hospitality general liability forms either sublimit assault and battery — capping it well below your main GL limit — or exclude it outright, and the wording differs from carrier to carrier. We read the specific endorsement on your policy, flag any sublimit or exclusion, and look at how it interacts with your liquor liability and security practices so you can see where coverage may fall short before an incident tests it.

We host special events and bring in outside acts and vendors — what should we be lining up?

A few things tend to matter most: special-event or host-liquor coverage for the dates in question, confirmation that the event sits within your existing limits or warrants higher umbrella limits, and certificates of insurance from every promoter, act, caterer, and vendor naming you as additional insured with the wording your contracts call for. We review the event agreements, handle the certificate exchange in both directions, and structure the coverage to reduce gaps between your program and the parties you're working with.
